For misdemeanor and felony domestic violence offenders, Zion Compassion Care offers a domestic violence intervention program. The domestic violence intervention program is a cognitive-behavioral treatment program based on the Duluth Model, providing a psychoeducational therapy program for people with power and control issues.
The Duluth Model is designed to encourage nonviolent behavior change and is backed up by ongoing research on the program's effectiveness. According to the curriculum, domestic abuse is viewed as a power and control issue. Additional modules on self-esteem, stress management, conflict resolution, healthy relationship skills, and other topics related to domestic violence issues are included in the curriculum. New research is being incorporated into the curriculum regularly. Although voluntary participation is encouraged, most of the program's participants are court-ordered.
